PHG History
The year 2017 saw three specialist urological surgeons; Tonderai Mangwiro, Charles Matumba Kabeya and Alex P. Danso, coming together to form a single-specialty group practice called the UROPARTNERS. Their vision was to harness their individual expertise and complement each other in improving not only their strengths and skills through learning from each other, but patient outcomes in general. Through the same concept, they managed to realise significant improvements in their work-life balance while at the same time providing continuos and quality service to their patients.
Post-graduate doctors who joined Uropartners during their urology training received the benefit of learning from the three experienced urologists in a reasonably well resourced private set-up.
By the end of 2020, the positive effects of the group practice concept were too obvious to ignore, and, encouraged by the outcomes of this single-discipline group practice, the co-founders Alex P. Danso and Tonderai Mangwiro began working tirelessly to sell the idea to other practitioners with a view to forming an even bigger multidisciplinary group practice so that patients could have a coordinated care in one place. This core-team led the discussions and negotiations with a group of like minded Specialist Doctors who appreciated and wanted to harness the power of teamwork in improving patient outcomes. The group became fully functional in August 2021 when they moved to their current premises in the grounds of St Anne’s Hospital along King George Road in Harare.
Pioneering Health Group is the first multidisciplinary group practice in Zimbabwe in the true sense and meaning of “group practice”.
With a current complement of about 30 specialist doctors from diverse disciplines, the vision of Pioneering Health Group is already geared for today, tomorrow and beyond!
